News came out this last week that the St. George area Elks Club/Dixie Red Hills Golf Course is undergoing a major renovation on the clubhouse this fall. Weekly/Nightly rental projects are on the rise in Southern Utah. Though St. George City has taken a hard stance on weekly/nightly rentals mixed in with single family residences they have approved 2 new weekly/nightly rental projects in the City since May of 2016.  “Our entire city is not a resort,” said Councilman Jimmie Hughes, who said he had no issues with the proposed development and thought it would have been done well but that he felt a responsibility to protect what the residents felt was important about the character of the area. This comment came at a City Council Meeting where a developer was attempting to get his weekly/nightly rental project approved.

There’s a burgeoning members-only social club in the St. George area that gathers monthly throughout most of the year to enjoy preferred wines, arts and more recently to raise funds for local arts. According to its media release this week, the St. George Wine Club has distributed nearly $10,000 in its first fiscal year as a nonprofit organization.
The funds were given to support local arts, performing artists, education programs and underserved members of the community throughout Washington County, club Co-Director Doug Hamilton said in the release, with proceeds from the monthly social gatherings.
